Tokyo, March 6 (Jiji Press)--Imported foreign-brand vehicle sales in Japan in February fell 0.3 pct from a year earlier to 22,742 units, the first decrease in three months, an industry group said Wednesday.

While the drop reflected shortage in stock of some vehicle brands, an official of the Japan Automobile Importers Association said that orders fared well.

Sales of imported foreign-brand vehicles accounted for 7.6 pct of all new automobile sales in Japan, excluding minivehicles, with engine displacements of up to 660 cc, up from 7.0 pct marked in the previous month.

Mercedes-Benz was the best-selling imported foreign brand in the reporting month, with 5,145 units, up 1.5 pct, according to the data from the association.

Volkswagen followed in second place, with sales of 3,984 units, up 1.0 pct, and BMW in third, with 3,647 units, up 0.5 pct.
