Toyota Mulling Lunar Probe Project

Nagoya, March 6 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp. <7203> is considering participating in moon exploration in cooperation with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, it was learned Wednesday.
The leading Japanese automaker is expected to work with JAXA to develop a means of transportation to the moon.
It plans to make an announcement on its participation on Tuesday, informed sources said.
Toyota aims to enhance its brand strength and technical capabilities through the development of the transportation system for use in harsh conditions in space, the sources said.
It also hopes to gain an advantage in the intensifying global competition over closer links between automobiles and information technologies, according to the sources.
