Japan, Vietnam Boosting Exchanges over Defense

Politics

Hanoi, March 6 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese and Vietnamese governments are boosting exchanges in the defense and security area.

On Wednesday, two training ships, including the Setoyuki, of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force arrived at a port in Danang, central Vietnam, and a ceremony to welcome the vessels was held.

Meanwhile, the head of the Vietnamese army recently made a trip to Japan to confirm the two nations' cooperation with Japanese Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya and others.

Both Japan and Vietnam are wary of China, which is speeding up moves for maritime expansion, and agree that they need to keep Beijing in check.

The two countries plan to deepen cooperation in the future as well.
