Fukushima, March 10 (Jiji Press)--Fukushima Prefecture will work together with the Japanese government and municipalities to revitalize all areas where residents evacuated following the March 2011 nuclear disaster, Governor Masao Uchibori said in a recent interview with Jiji Press.
The Japanese government has pledged to lift all evacuation orders issued in Fukushima following the nuclear accident, even in the long term, and work on the reconstruction and revival of affected areas, Uchibori said.
"The prefecture will work together with the central government, local authorities and related organizations to revive all such areas while respecting local municipalities' plans as much as possible," he said.
The interview was held on Thursday ahead of the eighth anniversary on Monday of the massive earthquake and tsunami that caused a triple meltdown at Tokyo Electric Power Company Holding Inc.'s <9501> Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.
Uchibori said that the more time it will take for the evacuation orders to be lifted, the more difficult it will be for people to return.
