Ceremony Held in Taipei to Thank Taiwan for 2011 Disaster Aid
Taipei, March 11 (Jiji Press)--A ceremony was held Monday at Japan's de facto embassy in Taiwan to remember victims of the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan and to thank Taiwan for its massive assistance.
The disaster served as an opportunity to reaffirm the special bond between the two economies, with Japan receiving over 20 billion yen in aid from Taiwan, said Mikio Numata, head of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association's Taipei office.
The de facto Japanese ambassador to Taiwan expressed gratitude for the massive support during the event, held on the eighth anniversary of the disaster.
The ceremony, cohosted by the Taipei office and a major group of Japanese living in Taiwan, was joined by Taiwanese diplomats and others.
After observing a moment of silence for the victims, participants placed flowers at an alter set up at the ceremony venue.
