Tokyo, March 12 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Fujifilm Holdings Corp. <4901> said Tuesday that it will buy a manufacturing unit of major U.S. biopharmaceutical company Biogen Inc. for some 890 million dollars.

The process to acquire Biogen (Denmark) Manufacturing ApS is expected to finish in August.

Fujifilm hopes to increase its output capacity of biopharmaceutical products significantly to bolster its contract manufacturing operations for such products, whose market is expanding.

The company considers the operations and regenerative medicine as its growth sectors. It is stepping up research and development investments and corporate acquisitions in the fields.

The manufacturing unit owns bioreactors with a total capacity of 90,000 liters.
