Japanese Rock Musician Yuya Uchida Dies at 79

Tokyo, March 18 (Jiji Press)--Japanese rock musician and actor Yuya Uchida died of pneumonia at a hospital in Tokyo on Sunday. He was 79.
His wife was the late Kirin Kiki, a Japanese veteran actress who passed away in September last year.
Inspired by Elvis Presley, Uchida started his music career as a road manager in 1957.
After his band made a full debut in 1959, he opened for the Beatles as a member of a specially organized band for the British group's Japan tour in 1966.
Uchida, who produced the rock band Flower Travellin' Band, was responsible for its overseas debut, as well as involved in forming the band the Tigers by discovering vocalist Kenji Sawada and others.
