Toyota Eyes Supplying Hybrid Systems to Suzuki Globally

Tokyo, March 20 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp. <7203> and Suzuki Motor Corp. <7269> said Wednesday that they will study new ways of collaboration, including the supply of Toyota's gasoline-electric hybrid systems to Suzuki on a global scale.

The two Japanese automakers will also look at Suzuki's supply of compact cars built on its platforms, namely the Ciaz and the Ertiga, to Toyota as an original equipment manufacturer for sales under Toyota's brand in India.

The expansion of the Toyota-Suzuki partnership "will help give us the competitive edge we will need to survive this once-in-a-century period of profound transformation," Toyota President Akio Toyoda said in a statement.

"We appreciate the kind offer from Toyota to let us make use of their hybrid technology," Suzuki Chairman Osamu Suzuki said.

The two automakers are working to give shape to a memorandum of understanding exchanged in 2017 on their business partnership.
