Woman Stabbed to Death at Tokyo Court; American Husband Arrested
Tokyo, March 20 (Jiji Press)--A 31-year-old woman from Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, was stabbed to death at Tokyo Family Court on Wednesday, and police arrested her 32-year-old American husband.
The bloody attack occurred in the lobby of the court building around 3:20 p.m. (6:20 a.m. GMT) as the wife arrived there for an appointment at 3:30 p.m. related to the couple's divorce settlement filing, according to police and other sources.
The husband, who was not supposed to visit the court on the day, ambushed the wife, abruptly stabbing her in the neck, witnesses said. The wife was confirmed dead at a hospital about one hour later.
The American man is said to have visited a hospital due to his mental illness, according to some sources. In August last year, the wife consulted police about the husband's mental condition.
Following the attack, he ran away from the scene, but was captured by court security guards and others near a police box about 300 meters from the court. He had three butterfly knives, as well as plastic bottles containing a gasoline-like liquid.
