Number of Stalking Cases Still High in Japan

Tokyo, March 28 (Jiji Press)--The number of stalking cases confirmed by Japanese police remained high in 2018, standing above 20,000 for the sixth straight year, National Police Agency data showed Thursday.
The number, however, declined 6.6 pct from the previous year to 21,556.
Meanwhile, domestic violence cases increased 6.9 pct to a record high of 77,482.
"Public attention to stalking and domestic violence has increased, prompting more victims to consult police," an agency official said.
Nearly 90 pct of the stalking victims were women. Of them, 35.8 pct were in their 20s and 24.5 pct in their 30s.
