Hirai to Retire as Sony Chairman in June
Tokyo, March 29 (Jiji Press)--Sony Corp. <6758> Chairman Kazuo Hirai will retire on June 18, the Japanese electronics maker has said.
Hirai has supported Chief Executive Officer Kenichiro Yoshida since he passed the CEO post to Yoshida in April last year.
After his retirement, Hirai will become senior adviser and give advice when requested from the management, according to the announcement on Thursday.
After becoming president in 2012, Hirai led structural reforms amid sluggish earnings mainly due to the loss-making television operations.
The reform measures included the separation of the electronics division from the company, the sale of the personal computer business and job cuts.
