Tokyo Decides on Tsukiji Redevelopment Policy
Tokyo, March 29 (Jiji Press)--The Tokyo metropolitan government decided Friday on a policy to redevelop the site of the now-defunct Tsukiji wholesale food market.
The Tsukiji market in Chuo Ward, central Tokyo, closed last autumn, handing over its market functions to a new market in Toyosu in neighboring Koto Ward.
In line with a draft plan adopted in January, mainly focused on building an international conference center, the metropolitan government added a theme of "food" to the policy, to "make the most out of historical and cultural assets at the site."
Meanwhile, the government stipulated that it will not redevelop the
wholesale market functions at the Tsukiji site.
