Aussie REIWA Website Flooded after Japan Era Name Announcement
Tokyo, April 1 (Jiji Press)--The website of the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia, or REIWA, has been flooded with traffic since the Japanese government announced on Monday that "Reiwa" will be the name of the country's next era.
Some 70 pct of the traffic was from Japan.
"It's not an April fools' joke, but it could be a blessing in disguise" for the Western Australia property market, REIWA said in a statement on its website.
The organization "embraces" the traffic spike and hopes to make it "an opportunity to entice migration and foreign investment back into our state in a fun and light-hearted way," Chief Executive Officer Neville Pozzi said in the statement.
The institute said it "welcomed" Japan's name choice for the new era that will follow the current Heisei. The new era will begin on May 1, when Crown Prince Naruhito accedes to the throne following the abdication of his father, Emperor Akihito, on April 30.
