Tokyo, April 3 (Jiji Press)--Japanese travel agencies and hotels are vigorously selling commemorative packages to take advantage of the forthcoming change of era in the nation, an opportunity that comes only once in several decades.
Leading travel agency JTB Corp. is selling a three-day tour that starts on April 30, the final day of the current Heisei era when Emperor Akihito is set to abdicate, and features visits to Ise Jingu, a Shinto shrine complex in the city of Ise in the central prefecture of Mie.
Tour participants will offer prayers at Naiku, where deity and Imperial ancestor Amaterasu-Omikami is enshrined, and other areas of Ise Jingu early in the mornings of April 30 and May 1, when Crown Prince Naruhito accedes to the throne and the new Reiwa era starts.
Nippon Travel Agency Co. is offering a train tour between Osaka Station in the western prefecture of Osaka and Izumoshi Station in the city of Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, also western Japan, where Izumo Oyashiro, a Shinto shrine, is located.
The Salon Car Naniwa train of West Japan Railway Co. <9021>, or JR West, will leave Osaka Station on the night of April 30. Aboard the train, participants will celebrate the moment when the era changes from Heisei to Reiwa at midnight.
