Shiseido Unveils New Lab in Yokohama
Yokohama, April 2 (Jiji Press)--Shiseido Co. <4911> showed reporters on Tuesday its largest research center, which the Japanese cosmetics maker has built in Yokohama at a cost of about 40 billion yen.
The Shiseido Global Innovation Center has a bespoke cosmetics store that takes into account customers' individual skin condition and a fitness facility for them.
The innovative approach is aimed at reflecting changes in customer preferences in product development.
At a press conference, President Masahiko Uotani expressed a wish to strengthen Shiseido's competitive edge by boosting the proportion of its research and development expenses to sales to 4 pct from nearly 3 pct at present.
Shiseido plans to add by the end of 2020 about 300 researchers to the current global figure of some 1,200.
