IHI Ordered to Improve Biz over Improper Inspections
Newsfrom JapanSociety Lifestyle
Tokyo, April 9 (Jiji Press)--Japan's transport ministry issued on Tuesday a business improvement order to IHI Corp. <7013> over improper inspections of aircraft engines and engine parts at the heavy machinery maker.
The ministry's East Japan Civil Aviation Bureau handed over the order to IHI President Tsugio Mitsuoka.
In 2004, IHI also received a business improvement order after test data fabrication was found in its repair business for passenger jet engines.
"We'll take the punishment sincerely and make preventive efforts," Mitsuoka said.
According to the bureau, inspections were conducted by workers without licenses at an IHI plant in the town of Mizuho, Tokyo. In addition, work records were fabricated as if checks were properly conducted despite failures to do so.
