Aeon to Develop Retail IT Services in China

Tokyo, April 9 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Aeon Co. <8267> said Tuesday that it will set up a new company in Hangzhou, China, Wednesday to develop retail services using information technology.

Aeon Digital Management Center will develop services such as digital coupons, cross-border e-commerce and membership registration using face recognition, while training IT personnel with expertise in the retail sector.

The Japanese retailer will test the services at a store in China starting this year. It plans to introduce them at about 80 stores in the country in stages.

The company aims to use the services at stores in Japan and Southeast Asia in the future.

Aeon will hold a stake of 93 pct in the new company and its IT solution unit, Aeon Integrated Business Service Co., will own the rest. The amount of investment involved was not disclosed.
