Tokyo Paralympics Pictograms Unveiled

Tokyo, April 13 (Jiji Press)--The organizing committee for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games on Saturday unveiled the official sport pictograms for the Paralympics.

The committee made the announcement exactly 500 days to go until the opening ceremony of the quadrennial sporting event for athletes with disabilities.

A total of 23 pictograms representing events of 22 Paralympic sports will be used to decorate competition venues, tickets and licensed products. They are intended to illustrate athletes' lively performances to help convey necessary information to spectators from all over the world.

The pictograms were developed by a team, including graphic designer Masaaki Hiromura. The team also developed the 50 pictograms for the Tokyo Olympics, which were announced last month.

The track and field pictogram depicts an athlete in starting position with an artificial leg, while the pictogram for swimming is a swimmer with a disabled arm. Two pictograms were created for cycling competitions, one for road and the other for track.
