Japan, China Foreign Ministers Agree to Cooperate for G-20 Summit
Beijing, April 15 (Jiji Press)--Visiting Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono agreed with Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday to work together for the success of the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, western Japan, in late June.
Wang said China will cooperate for the summit of the 20 advanced and emerging economies, apparently keeping in mind a Japan visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping on the occasion of the leaders' gathering.
After the meeting with Wang, held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, Kono told reporters that Xi is slated to attend the G-20 summit.
Kono said that Japan would not be able to invite Xi as a state guest, as the summit will be joined by a number of countries.
The Chinese side has not made any announcement on whether Xi will take part in the G-20 summit. A visit to Japan by Xi would be the first since he took office in 2013.
