Tokyo, April 16 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government on Tuesday decided to provide intensive support to nine more areas to help them lure foreign companies, with a view to revitalizing the local economies by preparing an attractive environment for investment from abroad.
The decision was made at a ministerial meeting for the promotion of foreign direct investment in Japan.
Such support program started in fiscal 2018, covering four areas--the northeastern prefecture of Fukushima, the eastern prefecture of Ibaraki, the southwestern prefecture of Fukuoka and the western city of Osaka.
The five areas selected for fiscal 2019 are the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido, the northeastern city of Sendai, the city of Yokohama, south of Tokyo, the western city of Kyoto, and an area covering three central prefectures--Aichi, Mie and Gifu--plus the Aichi capital of Nagoya.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan External Trade Organization will provide necessary support and foster experts.
