Japan Mulls Support for Rebuilding Notre Dame Cathedral

Tokyo, April 17 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government is considering providing technical support for rebuilding fire-ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, informed sources said Wednesday.

Possible measures include sending technicians and giving advice on fire prevention for cultural assets, the sources said.

"If specific requests come from France, we'll consider them and respond actively," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to express Japan's intention to support the cathedral's restoration when he holds talks with French President Emmanuel Macron during a tour of North America and Europe set to start Monday, the sources said.

There is also a plan for Abe to visit the cathedral in a show of solidarity with French people, the sources said.
