Tokyo, April 24 (Jiji Press)--Kirin Holdings Co. <2503> said Wednesday the company has built a 2-billion-yen plant to make lactic acid materials in eastern Japan.

The factory in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture, near Tokyo, is scheduled to start operations Thursday. Its first-year production capacity is estimated at about 10 tons.

Kirin sells beverage products and health supplements under its "iMuse" brand. The new facility will help strengthen the company's health science business division.

The company aims to boost the division's sales to 15 billion yen in 2021 and 23 billion yen in 2027.

In June this year, Kirin will open a new research center in Southeast Asia.
