Hitachi to Acquire U.S. Robotic System Company

Tokyo, April 24 (Jiji Press)--Hitachi Ltd. <6501> announced Wednesday that it has agreed to acquire JR Automation Technologies LLC, a U.S. robotic system integrator, for 1,425 million dollars.

Hitachi sees a growth opportunity in the streamlining of business operations in the manufacturing and logistics fields utilizing Internet of Things, or IoT, technologies, which enable the instant analysis of mass data.

Hitachi will acquire all shares in JR Automation Technologies from sellers including a U.S. investment fund. It aims to complete the deal by the end of 2019.

As a result of the acquisition, Hitachi will enter the market for developing systems using industrial robots, or the robotic systems integration business, in North America, where rapid growth in the sector is expected.

"The robotics market will grow for certain," Hitachi Executive Vice President Masakazu Aoki told a press conference, expressing hopes for further business expansion.
