Osaka to Pick Casino Resort Operator in Spring 2020
Osaka, April 24 (Jiji Press)--Hirofumi Yoshimura, governor of Osaka Prefecture, said Wednesday that the western Japan prefecture plans to select an operator to run a casino-featuring integrated resort in the spring of 2020.
The prefectural government will start accepting proposals on Thursday from companies aiming to operate the envisaged report it aims to build together with the Osaka city government to lure foreign visitors.
Although the Japanese government has yet to release its basic policy on the integrated resort project, the Osaka prefectural and municipal governments will start preparations early to pave the way for opening such a resort complex before the World Expo is held on Yumenoshima, an artificial island in Osaka Bay, in 2025.
The central government is expected to designate up to three areas in the country where casino reports will be opened, after screening project plans made jointly by willing local governments and publicly chosen resort operators and submitted by those governments.
The Osaka governments hope to open a casino resort on Yumenoshima.
