Tokyo, April 25 (Jiji Press)--The Tokyo metropolitan government on Thursday started to exhibit a potential work by anonymous street artist Banksy on the second floor of its No. 1 main building in Shinjuku Ward in the Japanese capital.
It will be on display during the period until May 8, which includes the 10-day holiday from Saturday.
The painting of what appears to be a mouse holding an umbrella was found on a tide gate in Tokyo's Minato Ward. The metropolitan government removed the tide barrier from the site in January for preservation.
Some 50 people lined up at the metropolitan government building, hoping to be among the first to see the painting.
"I feel fortunate to see something I knew from television," Honoka Hoshikawa, 14, a third-year junior high school student from Yamagata Prefecture, northeastern Japan, said with a smile.
