FY 2018 Int'l Passengers at Narita Mark 12-Yr High
Narita, Chiba Pref., April 25 (Jiji Press)--The number of passengers on international flights in and out of Narita International Airport hit a 12-year high of 35,870,691 in fiscal 2018, up 7 pct from the previous year, Narita International Airport Corp. said Thursday.
In the year that ended in March, the overall passenger count at the airport in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, went up 5 pct to hit an all-time high for the fourth straight year, with a surge in foreign visitors more than offsetting a 2 pct decrease each in domestic flight users and transit passengers, the airport operator said.
The company also said the total number of takeoffs and landings increased 2 pct to 256,821, rewriting a record high for the seventh consecutive year, thanks to six newcomers in international services and 11 new route openings.
Meanwhile, the airport's international cargo handling declined by 7 pct to 2,129,597 tons and fuel supplies to aircraft by one pct to 4,431,669 kiloliters.
