Couple Celebrates Change of Era with Wedding Ceremony

Karuizawa, Nagano Pref., May 1 (Jiji Press)--A wedding ceremony straddling the previous Heisei era and the new Reiwa era was held at a hotel in Karuizawa in the central Japan prefecture of Nagano.

Tsubasa Moriya, 34, and Mika Kobayashi, also 34, both corporate employees from the neighboring prefecture of Niigata, had the ceremony in the resort town where Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko met for the first time.

Moriya and Kobayashi applied for the ceremony plan, hoping to make their wedding unforgettable.

Reiwa replaced Heisei at midnight Tuesday (3 p.m. GMT) as Crown Prince Naruhito succeeded the throne from Emperor Akihito.

At the wedding ceremony, Moriya, decked out in a white tuxedo, and Kobayashi, in a white wedding dress, kissed on the stroke of midnight after exchanging rings.
