Seoul, May 5 (Jiji Press)--North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observed a live-fire rocket launcher drill of military units on the Sea of Japan coast on Saturday, North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported Sunday.

The drill was designed to check the operational capabilities of large-caliber, long-range multiple rocket launchers and tactical guided weapons, KCNA said. Kim highly evaluated the results of the drill and expressed satisfaction with the military units' ability to tackle the situation promptly, according to the report.

North Korea fired short-range projectiles from near Wonsan on its eastern coast on Saturday, and the report is believed to be referring to the firing.

According to South Korea's military, the projectiles flew 70 to 200 kilometers toward the Sea of Japan.

KCNA published photos of rocket launches and Kim observing them.
