Tokyo, May 8 (Jiji Press)--Japanese retailer Seven & i Holdings Co. <3382> said Wednesday that it will stop using plastic shopping bags by 2030.

The campaign will cover supermarkets, department stores and specialized stores as well as Seven-Eleven convenience stores.

It is rare for a major retailer in Japan to pledge to end the use of plastic bags.

Seven & i is considering the use of paper bags as an alternative to plastic ones.

The company has already been testing the use of paper bags at some of its convenience stores in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, since late April.
