Syringes Found in Desk of Arrested Govt Official
Tokyo, May 9 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo's Metropolitan Police Department has found syringes in the desk of an industry ministry career-track official arrested over alleged drug smuggling, investigative sources said Thursday.
The police on Sunday searched the ministry's Automobile Division office, where the arrested deputy head of the division, Tetsuya Nishida, worked.
Investigators confiscated syringes and other items found in his desk, the sources said.
Nishida, 28, was arrested on April 27 on suspicion of receiving an international mail package knowing that a stimulant drug was concealed inside. The mail contained 22.1 grams of the drug with a street value of 1.3 million yen.
Authorities replaced the drug with a different substance before the mail reached him. The arrest warrant alleges that he violated a narcotics control-related special law.
