Japan Imported Auto Sales Up for 1st Time in 3 Months
Tokyo, May 10 (Jiji Press)--Imported foreign-brand vehicle sales in Japan in April rose 1.5 pct from a year earlier to 17,681 units, the first increase in three months, an industry group said Friday.
The growth was led by brisk sales of popular types such as new models and SUVs, according to the Japan Automobile Importers Association.
Sales of imported foreign-made vehicles accounted for 7.7 pct of all new automobile sales in Japan, excluding minivehicles, with engine displacements of up to 660 cc, down from 8.8 pct in the previous month.
Mercedes-Benz topped the rankings for the 50th consecutive month, with sales of 3,640 units, up 0.7 pct.
BMW ranked second, with sales of 2,873 units, up 16.6 pct.
