Tokyo, May 14 (Jiji Press)--The father of Kumiko Otsuka, president of Japanese furniture retailer Otsuka Kagu Ltd. <8186>, has declined a request from her to become honorary chairman of a new industry group she has set up, informed sources said.

When the request was made in April, the father, Katsuhisa, the founder of the company, had responded positively, raising speculation that the two will settle their dispute.

At the time of the request, Katsuhisa Otsuka said he would not hesitate to cooperate to make the industry better.

But he later declined the request, saying that he had not received an adequate explanation about the purpose of the industry body, according to the sources.

In April, Kumiko Otsuka established the industry body to pass on the skills of traditional craftspeople making furniture.
