Wakayama, May 15 (Jiji Press)--French casino giant Groupe Lucien Barriere has opened an office in the city of Wakayama, western Japan.
With Wakayama Prefecture seeking to launch a casino-featuring integrated resort, or IR, the company aims to make an IR bid in the prefecture.
Jonathan Strock, leader of the company's Japanese subsidiary, told a press conference in the city on Tuesday that the prefecture satisfies the conditions needed to open an IR.
On the potential site, Strock noted that "the geographical location is excellent" and "very close" to Kansai International Airport in neighboring Osaka Prefecture.
Groupe Lucien Barriere will make preparations to apply to the prefecture for approval as an IR operator, he said.
