Toyota Tsusho Invests in U.S. Drone Startup


Nagoya, May 20 (Jiji Press)--Japanese trading company Toyota Tsusho Corp. <8015> said Monday it has invested in U.S. startup Zipline International Inc. to cooperate in the drone market.

It was the first time for the California company to accept investment from a nonfinancial business. The amount of the investment was not disclosed.

Zipline started a service using drones to deliver blood products for transfusions to hospitals in Rwanda in October 2016. It began a similar service in Ghana in April 2019.
