347 Pass Restaurant Sector Skills Test for New Japanese Visa

Tokyo, May 21 (Jiji Press)--A total of 347 foreigners have passed a restaurant worker skills test conducted for Japan's "type one" new resident status introduced last month, according to the results of the test released on Tuesday.

The test passers can obtain the new resident status if they meet requirements for Japanese-language ability.

The test was conducted in Tokyo and the western Japan city of Osaka by a restaurant industry group on April 25-26, with the number of applicants totaling 460. The pass rate came to 75.4 pct.

It is the first time that the results of a skills test for the new resident status have been announced.

The passers are 203 Vietnamese, 37 Chinese, 30 Nepalese, 15 South Koreans, 14 Myanmarese, 10 Taiwanese, nine Sri Lankans, eight Filipinos and 21 others. Of the total, 231 are men and 116 women.
