Low-Cost Carrier Optage Postpones Huawei Smartphone Launch
Osaka, May 23 (Jiji Press)--Optage Inc. said Thursday it has decided to postpone the sales launch of new smartphone and tablet computer models made by China's Huawei Technologies Co.
The Osaka-based operator of low-cost smartphone service "mineo" said it will confirm whether it can sell Huawei products without a problem.
Major Japanese mobile phone carriers KDDI Corp. <9433> and Softbank Corp. <9434> said Wednesday that they will put off the release of new Huawei smartphones, due to concerns over possible effects on Huawei products from U.S. sanctions against the Chinese telecommunications equipment maker.
NTT Docomo Inc. <9437>, another major carrier, has stopped accepting preorders for a new Huawei smartphone for a similar reason.
Meanwhile, Optage will continue selling existing Huawei products.
Launched in June 2014, the mineo service now has more than 1.14 million subscribers.
