2nd Person Confirmed Dead after Freighters' Collision off Chiba Pref.
Tokyo, May 28 (Jiji Press)--An officer was confirmed dead in a freighter that sank after colliding with another cargo vessel off Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, on Sunday, according to the Japan Coast Guard.
The second victim in the accident was identified as Kazufumi Kamimura, a 60-year-old first officer from Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture, the Choshi Coast Guard Office said.
The coast guard is now searching for two missing crew members and investigating the cause of the collision. The Japan Transport Safety Board is also conducting its probe into the accident.
In the small hours of Sunday, the 499-ton Sensho Maru, operated by a shipping company in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, sank after colliding with the same-tonnage Sumiho Maru, owned by a shipping firm in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, off Cape Inubosaki.
Before Kamimura's death was confirmed, Akira Yano, a 72-year-old second officer from Shizuoka, was found to have been killed in the accident.
