Kawasaki Stabbing Suspect Seen Buying 4 Knives in Advance
Kawasaki, Kanagawa Pref., May 30 (Jiji Press)--The 51-year-old suspected attacker in Tuesday's stabbing rampage near Tokyo is believed to have bought four knives in advance, Kanagawa prefectural police department officials said Thursday.
A local police investigation headquarters searched Wednesday the home of the suspect, Ryuichi Iwasaki from Kawasaki in Kanagawa Prefecture, just south of Tokyo, for some seven hours on suspicion of murder.
The police found four empty boxes of knives in a closet of his room. They also learned that two knives used in the attack and two other knives found inside his backpack left near the crime scene were not kitchen utensils used by relatives who lived with the suspect.
The police thus believe that the suspect purchased the four knives for the attack.
Although the police also seized dozens of items, including a notebook, from the house, descriptions about his motives or a suicide note were not found.
