Kyocera to Acquire Ceramic Biz of German Company

Economy

Kyoto, May 30 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Kyocera Corp. <6971> said Thursday it will buy the ceramic business of Friatec GmbH, a German maker of ceramic, plastic and other parts.

The acquisition will be conducted via a German unit of Kyocera. The deal is estimated to be worth about 10 billion yen.

The Kyoto-based ceramic and electronic parts manufacturer aims to complete the acquisition procedures this autumn.

By setting up an additional manufacturing hub in Europe, Kyocera hopes to bolster its supply system. Earlier this year, Kyocera acquired a German manufacturer of ceramic parts to strengthen its business.

Friatec is known for its high-performance ceramic components for industrial machines.
