Tokyo, June 4 (Jiji Press)--McDonald's Co. (Japan) and the Tokyo headquarters of The Yomiuri Shimbun, a major Japanese daily, have started jointly transporting salt and the paper's evening editions in the Kansai western Japan region.

The move is part of their efforts to streamline logistics and reduce environmental burdens, the two companies said Monday.

This marked their first cross-industry joint transportation.

The two companies will transport the paper's evening editions and salt used at McDonald's restaurants in the Kansai region from the western city of Osaka to the neighboring prefecture of Hyogo.

About 450 2-ton trucks of The Yomiuri Shimbun will be used for the transport per year.
