Resolution Filed to Condemn Lawmaker Maruyama for War Gaffe

Tokyo, June 5 (Jiji Press)--Japanese ruling and opposition parties submitted a joint resolution Wednesday to denounce lawmaker Hodaka Maruyama for his recent gaffes, including one suggesting war as a way to take back four Russian-held islands.

The resolution, presented by eight parliamentary groups to the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Diet, is expected to be adopted at a plenary meeting Thursday.

The resolution is the first one to denounce a lawmaker that has been submitted to parliament, according to the secretariats of the Diet's two chambers.

Maruyama is unfit for work as a lawmaker, the resolution said, effectively demanding the Lower House member resign urgently.

The ruling and opposition sides presented the joint resolution after withdrawing motions that they had respectively submitted to the Lower House.
