Hitachi, Bombardier to Supply High-Speed Trains to Italy
Tokyo, June 5 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Hitachi Ltd. <6501> said Wednesday that it and Bombardier Transportation have signed a contract to jointly manufacture 14 high-speed trains for an Italian railway operator.
Under the 575-million-euro deal concluded with the Italian entity, Trenitalia, the major Japanese machinery maker and Bombardier Transportation, an affiliate of Canadian machinery giant Bombardier Inc., will also offer maintenance services for the trains.
Hitachi's share in the deal is some 342 million euros. Deliveries of the "Frecciarossa 1000" trains will start in late 2020.
Hitachi is aiming to boost its railway system business abroad.
Each Frecciarossa 1000 train will have capacity for 460 passengers and travel at speeds of up to 360 kilometers per hour.
