Tokyo, June 6 (Jiji Press)--Seven & i Holdings Co. <3382> and Coca-Cola (Japan) Co. have announced plans to use bottles made purely from plastic bottles collected at Seven & i retail stores for a new beverage.
The project is billed as the world's first in which a group sells a product using a recycled bottle made from bottles collected by the same group.
The recycled bottles will be used for Hajime Ryokucha, a green tea product jointly developed by the two companies, according to their announcement Wednesday.
The product will hit the shelves at 24,000 Seven & i group stores across the country, including Seven-Eleven Japan Co. convenience stores and Ito-Yokado Co. supermarkets from Monday.
Seven & i plans to increase plastic bottle collection machines at group outlets by about 1,000 every year.
