Tokyo, June 7 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp. <7203> unveiled on Friday a new kick scooter-like electric vehicle slated to go on sale in 2020.
The single-user vehicle has no seat and the rider stands while driving. It is expected to be used in facilities such as airports and factories.
In 2021, the Japanese automaker plans to add a version with one seat, resembling a mobility scooter, and a version to which a wheelchair can be connected.
A two-seater ultra-compact electric car, designed for use in daily errands such as shopping, is also slated for release in 2020.
Toyota said it will work together with Suzuki Motor Corp. <7269> and Daihatsu Motor Co. to develop a compact electric vehicle to cope with tougher environmental regulations worldwide.
