Fraudulent Dispensing Fee Billing Found at Alfresa Pharmacy

Tokyo, June 7 (Jiji Press)--Major Japanese drug wholesaler Alfresa Holdings Corp. <2784> said Friday that fraudulent billing for dispensing fees has been found at a pharmacy operated by a subsidiary.

According to the parent company, the pharmacy charged patients dispensing fees without filling in their medication profiles.

The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry's health and welfare office in the northern Japan prefecture of Hokkaido instructed the pharmacy to voluntarily examine the matter and make refunds to affected patients.

But the outlet manipulated medication profiles to reduce the number of cases with no such records, in an attempt to lower the amount of refunds.

On Friday, Alfresa set up a special investigation committee of three outside lawyers, with a view to releasing the results of the probe in three months.
