Iran's Rouhani Vows to Stay with 2015 Nuclear Deal

Tehran, June 12 (Jiji Press)--Iran will stay with its 2015 nuclear deal with six major powers, President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday after a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

At a joint news conference after the meeting, Rouhani also expressed hope that Japan will support Iran's position.

Iran does not seek war with the United States, but it will make a severe response if attacked, Rouhani added.

Abe is visiting Iran to ease tensions between the United States and the Middle East country. He is the first sitting Japanese prime minister visiting Iran since Takeo Fukuda made a trip there in 1978, the year before the Iranian Revolution.

Rouhani said the cause of the region's tensions is U.S. economic war, adding that the relations between Tehran and Washington will improve if the economic war ends.
