Rouhani Vows to Stay in 2015 Nuclear Deal

Tehran, June 12 (Jiji Press)--Iran will stay in its 2015 nuclear deal with six major powers, President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday after a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tehran.

At a joint news conference after the meeting, Rouhani also expressed hope that Japan will support Iran's position.

Iran does not seek war with the United States, but it will make a severe response if attacked, Rouhani added.

Abe is visiting Iran to ease tensions between the United States and the Middle East country. He is the first sitting Japanese prime minister visiting Iran since a trip by Takeo Fukuda in 1978, the year before the Iranian Revolution.

Rouhani said the cause of the region's tensions is U.S. economic war, adding that stability will be restored if the economic war ends.
