Multilingual Translation Tools Spreading in Japan
Tokyo, June 15 (Jiji Press)--The use of multilingual translation tools is expanding in Japan, where foreign workers are expected to increase after new visa categories were launched in April.
A growing number of local governments have decided to introduce translation tools, which help foreigners go through administrative procedures smoothly.
The use of such tools allows municipal officials to talk to foreign applicants in their mother languages.
"Talking in the applicants' own languages makes it easier to convey our cooperative stance," said an official at Tokyo's Sumida Ward.
Sumida Ward introduced VoiceBiz, an audio translation app covering 30 languages, developed by Toppan Printing Co. <7911>.
