Policeman Found Stabbed near Osaka Police Box
Suita, Osaka Pref., June 16 (Jiji Press)--A policeman was found stabbed near a police box close to a railway station in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, on Sunday.
A man believed to be the attacker is on the run, apparently carrying a handgun stolen from the policeman, Suzunosuke Kose, 26. Kose is in critical condition.
The incident shocked the Osaka prefectural police, which are tightening security ahead of the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, the capital of the prefecture, on June 28-29.
Prefectural police head Takahisa Ishida apologized and promised to make utmost efforts to arrest the suspect.
The police received an emergency call around 5:40 a.m. (8:40 p.m. Saturday GMT) saying that a bleeding policeman was lying on the ground in front of the police box near Senriyama Station on Hankyu Corp.'s Senri Line.
