Apple Reportedly Willing to Support Struggling Japan Display

New York, June 18 (Jiji Press)--Apple Inc. has shown a willingness to help struggling Japan Display Inc. <6740>, The Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition on Tuesday.

While the U.S. technology giant has agreed to loosen the repayment terms for its loans extended to Japan Display, prospective investors in the Tokyo-based liquid crystal display maker are seeking further concessions, including waiving some of the debt outright, injecting new cash of up to 20 million yen and guaranteeing orders to the firm for this year and next year, the business daily quoted people involved in the talks as saying.

Apple has signaled that it could consider the requests, they were quoted as saying.

Japan Display, which supplies LCD panels for Apple's iPhone smartphones, faces a business slump as the smartphone market has been saturated.
